MarathonKids Ireland is an 8 week programme targeting 5th and 6th class students. Students learn about the health benefits of sport and perform four running sessions each week inching them closer to completing their first marathon as well as learning about the benefits of physical activity.
MarathonKids was introduced to our school through Waterford Sports Partnership. Brian O’Neill (WSP) arranged for David Gillick (International track and field athlete) to visit the school today.
David spoke to all classes about his running career and what inspired him to become an athlete. He spoke of the importance of physical activity and the benefits it has on our physical and mental well-being. David kindly answered questions that some of our 6th class students had prepared for him and spoke to one of our aspiring athletes in 3rd class.
David then led a running session in the yard for Ms Deegan’s class and Ms Russell’s class.
