A huge thank you to the staff of Ardkeen Library and to all the Ukrainian pupils of the school for celebrating Ukrainian Reading Month on Tuesday 21st May. Zlata, Marusia, Nikol, Vavara, Alina, Elina and Polina (Anna and Adelina were absent) welcomed librarians Tracy and Kate to discuss the competition that Ardkeen Library is running for the next few months. The competition is as follows; children are invited to read the new selection of Ukrainian language books in all library branches around the city, and are encouraged to complete a book review on said book in Ukrainian (template available from library). Entries will be displayed and winners will receive a prize. Librarian Kate is from Ukraine so there was lots of discussion in the pupil's native language; chattering and connections about topics such a cites of Ukraine, differences between Ireland and Ukraine, hobbies, Ukrainian school and Ukrainian authors. Smiles and laughter filled the room! Hopefully we will receive some book review entries from the Mercy!
Thanks also to Ms Barry for liaising with Waterford library and arranging for Kate to visit us in the Mercy. We look forward to welcoming her back again.
